INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR MATCHING SERVICE
Red, black and white mangroves line many Cape Coral shorelines. They're protected by state rules, so trimming them isn't like trimming a hedge. Here's a plain-language summary with links to FDEP's own guidance. When you're ready, we'll connect you with an independent local company that offers mangrove trimming. This is general information, not legal advice.

Check permits before any work starts. Mangroves are protected in Florida. Whether trimming is allowed, and how, can depend on the site's location, any earlier permits on the property and conditions specific to that lot. Before work begins, confirm the permit requirements with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) or the local authority that covers the property.
FDEP's FAQ says homeowners may trim their own mangroves when they're in a riparian mangrove fringe, are no more than 10 feet tall, aren't cut below 6 feet, and aren't defoliated. Taller than 10 feet means you need a Professional Mangrove Trimmer (PMT), though the work may still be exempt from a permit. Mangroves outside a fringe need a permit and a PMT (FDEP Mangrove FAQ).

Shorelines longer than 150 feet may trim only 65% of the mangrove area under an exemption.
FDEP publishes lists of state-authorized PMTs. Being on the list doesn't mean FDEP endorses them (FDEP PMT lists). Ask any company we connect you with whether a listed PMT will do or supervise your job.
Cape Coral has more than 400 miles of canals (City of Cape Coral). Keep equipment and debris off the seawall cap, and let the company know where the dock and lift are. Florida's residential tree law, which limits local permits for trees an arborist documents as dangerous, does not apply to mangrove protection (Florida Statutes).
Not always. FDEP's exemptions let homeowners trim fringe mangroves up to 10 feet tall (not below 6 feet). Taller ones need a Professional Mangrove Trimmer, and mangroves over 24 feet need a permit. See FDEP's FAQ.
No. FDEP treats root cutting as alteration, which needs a permit.

It depends on height, shoreline length, access from land or water, and whether staged trims are needed. The company gives you its own quote.
